✍️ Creating Your Own Designs
In order to print in 3D your file must also be in 3D. In order to create three dimensional objects you will need to use CAD(Computer-Aided-Design) software. There are multiple options available, including free and paid versions as well as beginner and advanced programs.
Most CAD programs require a level of skill that you and your may not be familiar with. If this is the case, no need to worry. There is a perfect program available that will allow you to create 3D objects easily in no time!
Designing with TinkerCAD
The program that will be most useful for you is TinkerCAD, which is free! But you first need to create an account.
We have our own TinkerCAD lessons that you can try yourself, or go to the TinkerCAD website and try the Starter Activities to get familiar with the program. It can be found at the top of the page under RESOURCES or use this link.
Other options if you are an advanced user or have CAD experience include:
- Fusion360 – FREE for students and hobbyists
- SolidWorks – Requires payment
- Onshape - FREE for students
