😄 Driver-Facing Cameras

We’ve assembled and used our cameras to help self-driving cars detect objects facing away from the vehicle but what about cameras facing the driver?

The Driver Monitoring System is a developing feature for autonomous vehicles where a camera is mounted on the rear mirror facing the cabin. While self-driving cars are designed to be used as, well, a car that drives itself, a person still needs to be aware and alert to take control at any given time.

Potential Uses

  • Improve car safety
  • Increase driver awareness
  • Prevent or deter vandalism in ride shares
  • Gaze tracking (what is the driver looking at?)
  • Alert the driver for signs of drowsiness or distraction
  • Driver identification (anti-theft)

Questions to Consider

  • Is your driver looking at their phone while driving?
  • Is this an invasion of privacy or good business practice?
  • Would monitoring alerts help you or distract you while driving?

What are your thoughts?
