Now that you’ve set up the basics of your Godot 2D Platformer, let’s add even more cool effects!
The Godot Engine is a feature-packed, cross-platform game engine to create 2D and 3D games from a unified interface. It provides a comprehensive set of common tools so users can focus on making games without having to reinvent the wheel.
Games can be exported in one click to a number of platforms, including the major desktop platforms (Linux, macOS, Windows) as well as mobile (Android, iOS) and web-based (HTML5) platforms.
A game engine is a piece of software that aids in the development of games by usually providing an editor and frameworks to make programming a game easier. Think of it like a toolbox that has all the pieces you need to build the game of your dreams! This can include an audio engine, a physics engine, and much more. Basically, it allows us to get much more done without having to start from scratch each time we start a game!
