Why should I learn more about electricity and electronics?

Learning about electronics will give you a better understanding of the technologies you use almost every hour of every day.  This helps you become a smarter, safer consumer and user of technology. You can diagnose technical problems even if you don’t choose to fix them yourself.  And as you learn more, you can fix things from your car to your house to your computer, all by understanding and applying what you learn here. Beyond fixing what breaks, you can build customized, high-quality systems or enhancements to increase your enjoyment of your house, your car or your personal electronics—exactly the way you want them.

Mastering electronics technology can also lead you to a great job.  Like many technical careers, and maybe more than most, electronics technicians and engineers enjoy above-average salaries and excellent working conditions.  And there will never be a diminishing need for technologists who maintain and expand our ability to use electricity to solve so many everyday problems.

But most importantly... it’s fun! Even if you don’t follow a career in the world of electricity, there are many fascinating hobbies that are greatly enhanced by understanding even the basics of electricity and electronics.

There has been an explosion of tiny, powerful but cheap computers like Raspberry Pi and Arduino in the last fifteen years.  They put an amazing amount of power in your hands if you understand how they work.  Build a robot, some wearable computers or the next great environmental breakthrough—but it all starts here.  So let’s get started!
